A rare Sunday outing for the Ducks, courtesy of a clash of home matches with Chesham's taking priority, saw the visit of play off chasing Ware. Three changes from the team that ran League leaders Hadley so close on Tuesday evening saw Jake Bewley restored to the team after the birth of his child, with Kian Henry taking a seat on the bench; Haziz Kone and Kamil Zielinski also started in place of the unavailable Morrison Hashii and Luqman Kassim, who also took a place on the bench. There was also the welcome sight of the return on the bench of Sonny French after his transfer in the week from Kings Langley. Ware arrived having won 2, drawn 2 and lost 2 of their last 6 matches, looking for points to maintain the push for a play-off place.
The visitors had the first opportunity, a ball was swept out to Johnny Allotey wide on the right; he cut inside Charley Tuttle, evaded a tackle by Ben Stallard before shooting from the corner of the penalty area which Jack Hopwood did well to parry clear for a corner. On 12 minutes, Gabriel Chapps had a great opportunity to open the scoring, but could only direct his free header from a corner wide of the target. Ten minutes later Stefanos Georgiou played a pass from the half way line to Mitch Hahn, who took a touch and shot from 25 yards, but his effort was high over the crossbar.
The first opportunity for the Ducks came in the 25th minute; a Tuttle cross from the left was headed down by Liam Batchelor-Morgan, falling to Kone on the edge of the penalty area, but his shot was wide of the left-hand post.
Shortly afterwards Ben Stallard fouled Georgiou as he cut across the pitch; Joe Dearman took the free kick which was saved by Hopwood and cleared by Jack Wood. The ball was moved forward quickly to Kone, who spotted the run of Kamil Zielinski, but his shot was well blocked by Georgiou and cleared.
Georgiou was looking especially dangerous going forward, just past the half hour he went on a mazy run through the Ducks midfield, evading tackles as he reached the edge of the penalty area, but his shot was met by Hopwood, quickly off his line to save with his feet.
The next attack was created from deep; a clearance fell to Zielinski who headed on to Kwai Marsh-Brown; he exchanged passes with Will St Clair-Burton, before crossing to Ben Peters who turned and shot from 15 yards, but saw his effort blocked by Kai Somers.
Two minutes later the Ducks took the lead. A free kick was awarded 25 yards out for a foul by Hahn on Ben Stallard. Tuttle took the free kick and saw his effort deflect off the wall and loop over keeper Fred Burbidge and nestle in the far corner of the net. 1-0 Aylesbury
The Ducks were definitely on the front foot by this stage, next up, St Clair-Burton took aim from 35 yards, but saw Burbidge make a good save. With six minutes left on the clock before half time, Marsh-Brown slipped and lost possession to Georgiou on the half way line. He made good ground towards the Ducks penalty area and shot from 25 yards, but Hopwood was again a match for his effort, with Kone on hand to clear the danger.
The Ducks extended the lead in the 43rd minute, Zielinski flicking the ball expertly into the path of Marsh-Brown on the left, who crossed low into the 6-yard box where Kone got ahead of Isaac Evans to sidefoot home. 2-0 Aylesbury
Half-time: Aylesbury 2-0 Ware
Into the second half and Kone won the ball on the right and passed to Peters; he crossed to Zielinski 15 yards out, but his header lacked the power or direction to trouble Burbidge.
A foul by St Clair-Burton on Allotey 25 yards from goal gave Ware a great opportunity to pull a goal back. Dearman drilled the free kick low around the wall, where Jon Clements managed to deflect the ball from 6 yards, but Hopwood again stuck out a leg at point blank range and cleared the danger.
Two minutes later, a poor back pass by Somers was seized on by Kone; he made his way into the penalty area and pulled the ball back to St Clair-Burton, who saw his shot deflected wide. Stallard took the corner which was headed clear, but recycled back to Stallard, who fed Marsh-Brown on the overlap. His low cross into the 6-yard box was met by the head of Bewley, but his effort flashed narrowly wide of the far post with Burbidge beaten.
In the 80th minute, Georgiou took a throw in and collected the return pass, before cutting infield and shooting from 30 yards, but saw his effort tipped over the crossbar by Hopwood.
French, on as a substitute for Peters was quickly into the action; with 9 minutes remaining, a ball was threaded through to him, escaping away from the defence; he shot from 18 yards, but saw his effort go wide of the far post.
Four minutes were remaining when the Ducks sewed up the 3 points. A Stallard corner found Wood at the far post, soaring above his defender to power in his first of the season. 3-0 Aylesbury
The final stages of the game were well controlled, with the Ducks confirming a fine win and a 7th clean sheet, resulting them climbing back to second in the table, 3 points behind Hadley. Next up is a trip to play league newcomers Enfield next Saturday, who play at Hertford Town.
