The Milton Keynes side were the quickest out of the blocks, forcing United keeper Georgia Smith to twice save in the opening minute with Nicola Hunt having Aylesbury?s first effort saved five minutes into the half.
The Ducks weathered a barrage of pressure for much of the first period with Gemma Franklin and Georgia Smith being in excellent form, but looked dangerous on the break, particularly through the pace of Nicola Hunt.
After the break Smith turned a goal bound shot onto the post but Newport finally broke the deadlock on the hour mark. A melee in the goalmouth from a twice taken corner, wasn?t cleared and the ball was toe-poke over the line from centimetres out.
The goal fired United into life with lively debutante Lynn Pacey finding Lucy Ilic and the combative midfielder?s snap shot flew just wide.
As Aylesbury pressed forward looking for an equaliser the visitors were restricted to the odd breakaway but despite having the majority of the possession in the last twenty minutes United?s only real effort was a Nicola Hunt shot which was well blocked.
A plucky performance against one of the league?s better side showing that if United can keep up this standard they should be well capable of maintaining their place in Division One.
