In heavy conditions the Ducks started the match brightly with Kerry Naisbitt and Lynn Pacey going close early on.
It was the lively Pacey who opened the scoring on twenty minutes with a deft lob which beat the keeper, clipped the cross bar and dropped over the line.
Four minutes later the lead was doubled as Emma Williams' cross found Hannah Franklin who made no mistake with a clinical finish.
United continued to dominate with Franklin and Naisbitt creating several openings before Franklin added a third goal with a fierce drive from the edge of the area.
Right on half time Leigh Reed had a shot saved and the rebound fell to Lynn Pacey whose effort was tipped onto the bar and scrambled away to safety.
The second period continued in a similar vein with Sally Short and Emma Williams both having efforts thwarted before the home side finally had spell of possession forcing Harriet Parkin in the United goal into a couple of good stops.
As the match drifted to its conclusion United had one final opportunity as captain Sarah Gerrard's long ball from her own half found Kerry Naisbitt. The burly striker crossed in one movement to strike partner Franklin but the top scorers volley flew just the wrong side of the post.
A comfortable win for United then ahead of two tricky looking games in the weeks ahead.
