Unfortunately this showed as for the first 20 minutes Wycombe had all the pressure but failed to score. It must be mentioned that in United?s defence Lucy Ilic led her fellow defenders excellently and another good display from Bethan Harris.
Very much against the run of play Aylesbury scored the first goal. Captain Gemma Franklin beat three defenders and then slid the ball home having rounded the goal keeper.
Ten minutes later, following slick passing between Kay Norton and Suzie Cole, the ball was played into Gemma Franklin whose stinging shot was well saved by the keeper.
However Wycombe were still on top overall resulting in an equaliser in the 34th minute.
The second half began with Aylesbury creating a frenetic goalmouth scramble but the Wycombe defence held out.
In the 57th minute Wycombe scored their 2nd goal from close range. Although the goal stood, the whole of the Aylesbury defence believed the goal to be offside.
Aylesbury tried hard for an equaliser but a shot from Kay Norton produced a good save and a further shot from Sarah Cole went just wide.
Wycombe replied with further pressure and following a point blank save from Mel Gilbert, they scored their 3rd goal from a free kick on the edge of the area hotly disputed by Aylesbury.
Aylesbury tried hard in the last 15 minutes to pull a goal back, but were unsuccessful. In this period Claire Poulton had a chance but was well saved and Gemma Franklin burst through again but couldn?t get enough power into her shot.
Overall this was a valiant effort against a team from a division above. At times Aylesbury held their own with good performances from all the team, Player of the Match Lucy Ilic and both Bethan Harris and Beanie Cameron having exceptional games.
