Defeated in their last home match against Barton Rovers, the Ducks attention turned to the Berks & Bucks Senior Cup, with a 4th round trip to Flackwell Heath.
A number of changes to the starting line as manager Dave Tuttle rotated his squad, which saw Jack Hopwood return after his extended suspension following his sending off at Leighton Town, Liam Batchelor-Morgan replace Kian Henry at full back, Ashis Rai make his full debut in midfield in place of Ben Stallard, and a new front 3, with Kamil Zielinski, Morrison Hashii and Daniel Lodovica (making his Ducks debut) starting in place of Tom Cove, Kajetan Halatyn and Luqman Kassim.
The hosts came into the game in good form, having won 5 of their last 6 games, losing only to League leaders Berkhamsted in that run of games.
The home side began well, Sean McGuinness passing the ball forward to Lewis Patrick on the left; he moved past Lodovica before shooting from just inside the penalty area, which Hopwood claimed at the second attempt. Soon after Matthew Ayres won the ball in midfield before passing to prolific top scorer Wiktor Makowski, who hit a powerful shot which again bounced off the body of Hopwood and away from danger.
The Ducks had a glimmer of a chance in the 8th minute, Batchelor-Morgan intercepted the ball in midfield and sprinted down the right touchline, before pulling the ball back to Sonny French on the edge of the penalty area, but his first time shot was ballooned over the crossbar.
On the quarter hour, Makowski had another half chance, turning on the edge of the penalty area and getting his shot away, but Jack Wood was well placed to block his effort. He came closer still two minutes later, when James Ayres made good ground down the right and crossed to the striker, but this time his goal bound shot was cleared off the line by the well positioned Batchelor-Morgan.
James Ayres went close in the 31st minute, when he collected a ball wide on the left, before cutting inside Batchelor-Morgan before shooting from the edge of the penalty area only to see Hopwood tip his effort over the bar.
On 38 minutes, Charley Tuttle found Hashii on the left flank, who did well to get past Kieran Jordan and reach the by-line, before picking out Lodovica in the penalty area, but his shot was wild and cleared the bar.
Just as supporters were thinking that we would reach half time goalless, the hosts took the lead with 2 minutes remaining on the clock; Rai gave the ball away in midfield, James Ayres collected the gift and advanced before shooting home from 20 yards. 1-0 Flackwell
Despite the proximity of half time, the Ducks had another opportunity, when Rai picked out the run of Zielinski in the left channel, who thundered a powerful shot past Carl Dennison from an acute angle and in off the near post; however, celebrations were short-lived as the asst referees flag was raised for offside.
Half-time: Flackwell 1-0 Aylesbury
The Ducks started the second period well, forcing a corner in the opening minute; Lodovica took the corner kick which was headed out to French 25 yards from goal, but his effort was volleyed just over the cross bar.
There was a great opportunity to equalise 4 minutes later, when Wood carried the ball out of defence before finding Zielinski in the centre circle. The striker turned well and slid a pass through to Hashii clear on goal ahead of Jordan, but Dennison was off his line quickly to narrow his shooting angle and make a good save.
In the 55th minute Batchelor-Morgan lost possession, with the ball being moved forward to Jordan, who shot towards the near post, but Hopwood was able to make a save.
The lead was doubled in the 61st minute; Matthew Ayres playing the ball wide to Jordan on the right; he made ground before firing in a low cross to Patrick who saw his shot hit the near post and rebound out. He was the first to react and collected the rebound, firing beyond Hopwood into the net. 2-0 Flackwell
From the very next attack, Makowski had a great chance to kill the game off, when he met a cross Patrick, but his header lacked direction and drifted wide of the target. With 10 minutes left to play, a good run by substitute Abdel El Jalaoui saw him advance down the right before pulling the ball back to Makowski, who saw his shot from 12 yards rebound to safety off the post.
That was the end of the meaningful action, a defeat which eliminates the Ducks from the County Cup for tis season. A busy period awaits, with 8 games in the next 31 days, starting with a match against Welwyn Garden City on Saturday.
