The Ducks travelled to Ware looking to halt an alarming run of 9 consecutive defeats. The starting XI showed a number of changes to the team that lost out to League winners Real Bedford the previous week. Luke Daley started his 3rd game of the season, replacing the unavailable Jack Hopwood, Maks Jarzabek, Kacper Kloc and Sonny French made up the midfield in place of the rested Haziz Kone, Ben Peters and Darren Brew, with Tyrone Shiham making his full debut in place of the injured Benji Kakembo.
The Ducks started confidently, in the 8th minute French found midfield partner Jarzabek who fired in a shot from 25 yards which home keeper Fred Burbidge parried and collected at the second attempt. From the next attack, Shiham cut inside from the right and pulled the ball back to Kloc, who saw his shot from the edge of the penalty area blocked; the ball fell to Shiham, whose shot was well saved by Burbidge and fell to French outside the area. He shot from 20 yards but saw his effort parried away from danger by the keeper.
Just before the half hour, Tom Cove played a ball down the left to the overlapping Charley Tuttle, who crossed to Luqman Kassim 12 yards out who saw his header rebound away off the far post, although the assistant’s flag was raised to rule him offside.
Despite dominating the opening exchanges, the Ducks fell behind in the 31st minute. Gucci Soulya-Osekanongo played a long diagonal over to the rights side, where Theo Ofori cut inside both Tuttle and Jake Bewley, before clipping a shot past Daley as he advanced off his line. 1-0 Ware
Four minutes before half time the Ducks had the ball in the net; great interplay between Kassim and French saw the ball fall to Jarzabek, whose shot beat Burbidge, but for the second time, the offside flag was raised, again, a marginal call.
As the first period came towards an end, Ware had a great opportunity to extend their lead, a cross by Ofori was met by the prolific Jon Clements, but he could only direct a free header straight at Daley.
Half-time: Ware 1-0 Aylesbury
The second half started with Haziz Kone replacing Liam Batchelor-Morgan, who had suffered an injury in the first half; the rearrangement saw Tuttle move to right back, Cove to LB and Kone into midfield.
The home side were straight on the attack, a ball down the left found Soulya-Osekanongo who outmuscled Will St Clair-Burton before pulling the ball back to Max Granville on the edge of the penalty area, but his shot was sliced wide of the far post.
Another great opportunity for the hosts came in the 52nd minute; a corner was met by Jay Rolfe unmarked 10 yards from goal, but his header was over the bar.
From the restart a ball over the defence to Kone saw him pick out the run of French on the left. He made his way into the penalty area before drilling a low cross to Kloc at the far post, who played the ball back into the 6-yard box, where Kone arrived to tap home. 1-1
Two minutes later a corner from Moutawafiq fell to Rolfe who smashed a volley from 10 yards against the crossbar.
On the hour Kone did well on the right to escape from Joe Dearman before playing a low ball to Shiham 8 yards out, but his first time shot was saved at point blank range by Burbidge, although how much he knew about the save is debateable!
Disaster struck in the 63rd minute, as a long ball forward by Burbidge cleared the defence, with Samuel Kifwasima Mayuma in chase; St Clair-Burton got back to defend, but miscommunication between him and Daley, who had rushed off his line saw the ball fall nicely for the striker who stroked into an empty net. 2-1 Ware
Straight after, the Ducks suffered a second injury to a defender as Tuttle was forced off to be replaced by Freddy Joyce. Soon after, Kloc played the ball forward to Shiham; he in turn found Cove wide on the left, who shot from 15 yards but saw his effort fly across goal.
In the 66th minute, the Ducks had another 'goal' chalked off for offside Kassim did well on the left before playing the ball into the penalty area; it was half cleared to Kloc on the edge of the penalty area, who hit the post with his shot, the rebound falling to Kassim, who was adjudged to be in an offside position.
The hosts extended the lead with 12 minutes left to play; Soulya-Osekanongo played the ball wide to Ofori, who was patient in holding up the ball and looking for a crossing opportunity, before finding substitute Gabriel Chapps in space on the edge of the penalty area, who swept the ball home first time. 3-1 Ware
A minute later and the lead was increased; Ofori again did well on the right, before jinking inside and sliding a shot under Daley from 15 yards. 4-1 Ware
To their credit, the Ducks continued to look for attacking opportunities and in the 84th minute pulled a goal back. Joyce did well on the left and fired in a cross to the 6-yard box, where the unfortunate Dearman saw the ball rebound off his knee past Burbidge. 2-4
As the game ticked into added on time the scoreline got worse for the Ducks. 93 minutes on the clock and a corner from substitute George Ironton was headed in from 6 yards by the unmarked Soulya-Osekanongo. 5-2 Ware
Then straight from the restart, a ball played back to St Clair-Burton saw him dally on the ball and was robbed by Soulya-Osekanongo; the ball rebounded to substitute Timothy Okwusogu, who was standing in an offside position, but the asst was too far up the field to see definitively and the goal was allowed to stand to sign off a miserable afternoon for the Ducks. 6-2 Ware
That signalled a 10th consecutive defeat for the Ducks, and the fixtures don't come any easier as they attempt to arrest the slump, with promotion chasing Hadley at the Meadow and a trip to second placed Berkhamsted the Easter fixtures.
With two more injuries today, to add to those of the strike pairing, in the case of Pow Raposo what is a season ending injury, the squad is now looking quite light on numbers. Nevertheless, despite the defensive frailties today, there was enough of an attacking intent to suggest that a they will go down fighting as the season draws to a close.
