Manager Jack Wells was able to welcome new signing Ken Feyi into the starting line up for this match against top of the table Bedford Town. Feyi replaced Jack Moriarty who took a seat on the substitute's bench against his former club.
The Ducks started well against the league leaders, with a Dave Pearce corner from the right in the second minute headed down by Derek Feyi to Jake Bewley, whose shot from 6 yards was bravely blocked at point blank range by Lewis Green, deflecting out for a second corner. This time, Pearce's delivery was missed by keeper Mark Smith, the ball falling to Jack Wood, but his header from close range was over the crossbar.
In the 5th minute, Lynton Goss made good ground on the left, shepherded by Wood, before cutting inside and shooting from 15 yards, to find his low effort well saved by James Callan. In a frenetic opening, the Eagles were soon on the offensive again; right back Hamzat Balogun passed to Goss on the right, who outpaced Derek Feyi before seeing his shot well saved by Callan for a corner. Adam Watkins took the corner kick and found the head of Ex-Duck Alex Collard at the far post, but his header was well claimed by Callan.
Still only in the 10th minute, Rocko Tamplin won the ball in midfield and made his way across field before passing to Kwai Marsh-Brown; the winger crossed to the far post where Feyi climbed above Balogun, but his downward header was well saved at the near post by Smith. Tamplin was in the thick of the action again shortly afterwards, collecting the ball in the middle of the park and powered away from Balogun before firing a left foot shot across goal, narrowly wide of the far post.
With 15 minutes on the clock, Emmanuel Dahie picked the ball up in the centre circle and played it forward to Watkins; he spread the ball wide to Louis Walsh, but his shot from 15 yards was high and wide of the goal.
Ten minutes later Bewley intercepted a pass from Watkins that was intended for Walsh; he passed to Tamplin who made ground and shot from 25 yards, but saw his shot rise above the crossbar.
The first yellow card was shown to Walsh in the 35th minute for a pull back on the shirt of Bewley. Hayden Beadle stepped up to take the free kick from 25 yards, but like Tamplin before him, his effort was too high to trouble Smith.
Half-time: Aylesbury 0-0 Bedford
The second half started with the visitors on the attack; a cross from Ryan Blake was headed down by Max Cavana but only as far as Walsh whose shot from the edge of the penalty area was tipped over the bar by Callan.
Callan was again in the action 4 minutes later, Blake outpacing Wood before firing in a shot which the Ducks' stopper did well to save low to his left. A free kick on the right corner of the penalty area was taken by substitute Ben Walster towards Collard; he headed the ball down to defensive partner Shane Bush whose low shot was again well saved low down by Callan.
The Ducks had a great opportunity to open the scoring with 15 minutes left on the clock; a corner from Pearce on the left was met by David Lynn, who saw Smith make a great one handed save to keep his header out. The ball fell to Derek Feyi, but his effort was blocked on the line by Watkins. Straight up the other end and a cross from Balogun found Walsh 8 yards out, but with goal gaping, he could only crash his shot off the crossbar, allowing the Ducks to clear the rebound.
Good work from Tamplin and Bewley on the left saw the latter fire in a low cross towards the near post, where Collard could only slice his clearance, fortunately for him landing safely, when it could so easily have been an own goal.
The final chance of note fell to the visitors as the clocked ticked into added on time. A cross from Watkins found the head of substitute Harrison Crawford, but his weak effort was deflected wide by Wood.
As goal-less draws go, this was up there as one of the most entertaining, both teams grateful for fine performances by the goalkeepers to maintain their clean sheets. Up next for the Ducks is a home match against Barton Rovers on Tue 31st Oct, before a trip to Biggleswade Town next Saturday.
