Just one enforced change to the starting line up for today's match, with Ken Feyi serving a one match suspension for his unfortunate sending off at Biggleswade Town last week, which saw Lewis Crosbie return to the starting line up.
A cagey opening saw little in the way of goal mouth action, until the 10th minute, when the Kidlington left back Mark Flanagan found Mekhai Bessasa-Grant wide on his flank; he fired in a low cross to the 6-yard box which fell to Felipe Barcelos, but his attempt from 10 yards was blocked and cleared.
Straight down the other end and the Ducks took the lead. Jake Bewley found Rocko Tamplin, who cut inside his marker and made his way towards the centre of the park, where he fired in a shot from 25 yards which ex Ducks stopper Jack Hopwood found too hot to handle, fumbling the ball beyond him into the goal. 1-0 Aylesbury
On 23 minutes the visitors had a great opportunity to draw level, when confusion between Crosbie and Derek Feyi saw the ball drop to Piers Walton, who found Jack Gardner, but his shot was high over the crossbar. Gardner had another golden opportunity shortly afterwards, when a cross by Connor Ferguson was headed out by Jake Bewley to the midfielder, who was unmarked on the edge of the penalty area, but as with his previous effort, his volley sailed over the bar.
Two minutes later, Tamplin had another opportunity, again cutting in from his flank, but this time his effort was also too high to trouble Hopwood.
As half time approached, Bessasa-Grant did well to reach the goal line and pull the ball back to Gardner who was fouled on the edge of the penalty area. Ferguson stepped up to take the free kick, placing it out of reach of James Callan to bring the scores level. 1-1
Half-time: Aylesbury 1-1 Kidlington
The second half saw Tyriq Hunte introduced in place of David Lynn, who had been feeling under the weather before the game. It was Hunte who crafted the next goal, spreading the ball wide to Tamplin; he outpaced Lochlan Colquhoun breaking into the penalty area and firing across Hopwood to retake the lead for the Ducks. 2-1 Aylesbury
Three minutes later, centre half Ben Richards was afforded too much time and space in the middle of the park, advancing towards goal before unleashing a shot from 35 yards, which forced a good save from Callan. From the resulting corner, the ball fell to Ferguson, who took on Max Cavana, before firing in a low shot-cum-cross which just evaded two inrushing attackers, going out for a goal kick.
Ferguson came close to getting his own double 5 minutes later, a cross from the right was headed clear to him, but again Callan was equal to his effort. With 15 minutes remaining, a corner delivered by Gardner was met by a towering header from Richards, but his attempt was tipped over the bar by Callan.
As the game approached the closing stages, the Ducks were forced to defend deeper, bring pressure from the visitors. The resistance was finally broken in the 89th minute, when a shot from Richards was parried by Callan into the path of former Duck striker Owen James, on as a substitute, who tapped in from close range at the far post. 2-2
The drama wasn't yet over, as substitute Amari Davis-Stephenson cut in from the right, passing to James, who had a shot tipped over for a corner. Gardener's delivery was punched clear by Callan, only to see a shot fired in from the edge of the penalty area, which was cleared off the line by Crosbie.
There being no further score, the Ducks can reflect on what may be considered 2 points dropped with the concession of the late goal, but in truth, on balance a draw was probably the right result. There is now a 2-week break, due to the earlier rescheduling of the match at Cirencester, before a trip to Ware on 25th November.
