After taking their winning run to 2 games out of a total unbeaten run of 4 matches with a 2-0 home win over North Leigh in their most recent game on 23rd March, Aylesbury United's hopes of making it 3 in a row were dashed as they slipped to a rather disappointing 1-2 home defeat by local rivals Thame United in their Pitching In Southern League Division 1 Central clash in front of a 264 crowd at The Meadow, Chesham on Easter Monday.
Aylesbury went into Monday's game in 16th place out of 19 in the table, a point behind 15th placed Barton Rovers with 14th placed Biggleswade FC a further 3 points ahead but with The Ducks having played a game more than Biggleswade and Barton.
Meanwhile, Thame went into the game on the back of a 1-3 home defeat by Ware 48 hours earlier, which was their 2nd straight defeat following a 2-3 away defeat by title-chasing Bedford Town earlier in the week.
That defeat by Ware plus results elsewhere had left Thame in bottom place, a point behind 18th placed Kidlington with 17th placed Kempston Rovers a further point ahead.
The first chance came Thame's way in just the 3rd minute when Eitel Moumi-Goueth's diagonal through ball from left of middle found Dani Lucas on the left. His diagonal ball infield found Jaydon Carbon, who ran into the left of the box before firing his low right foot shot from 8 yards wide of Ducks keeper James Callan's right hand post when he should have done much better.
Then in the 5th minute, Carbon pushed over Ducks defender Charley Tuttle near the halfway line on the hosts' left but Watford referee Stuart Smith chose to only speak to Carbon without showing him a yellow card.
Then just before the end of the 13th minute and totally against the run of play, Aylesbury took the lead. Tuttle's low through ball from the halfway line down the left found Tom Cove, who took a touch to control and ran forward before crossing into the box for Brayden Daniel to send his first time right foot shot from 6 yards dribbling into Thame keeper Archie Davis' right hand corner. 1-0 Aylesbury
Thame went close in the 16th minute when Moumi-Goueth's low diagonal through ball on the left found Harry Alexander, who took a touch to control before crossing low for Ethan Lack, whose first time right foot shot from a central position on the edge of the box was held low to his left by Callan.
A good chance came Aylesbury's way in the 19th minute when David Pearce's through ball from the halfway line down the middle found Daniel, but his attempted chip from 25 yards wasn't high enough and was held by Davis with Daniel knowing he should have done better.
Then at the other end in the 21st minute, Carbon's right foot free kick from 22 yards on the left front of the box was held at head height by Callan.
Then in the 28th minute, Thame equalised when Alexander's corner from the right into the middle found the unmarked Mark Riddick who escaped his marker Jack Wood to send his header from 6 yards into Callan's left hand corner to score against his former club. 1-1
The next chance came Aylesbury's way in the 40th minute when David Lynn's long throw-in infield from the left was headed on by Derek Feyi with the ball then bouncing a couple of times in the box before eventually running to Keegan Bloom, whose left foot shot from 15 yards was deflected by Carbon past Davis' left hand post for a corner.
What proved to be the last chance of the first half came The Ducks' way 61 seconds into added time at the end of the half when, from Daniel's through ball from outside the D of his own box down the middle, Thame defender Finlay Murray slipped 15 yards inside his own half to let in Ken Feyi. He ran on and attempted to round the advancing Davis before firing his right foot shot from 12 yards from a tight angle over the left hand angle of bar and post when he probably should have done better.
Half-time: Aylesbury 1-1 Thame
The Ducks made a half time change with Jake Bewley coming on to replace Derek Feyi, with Thame making their first change at the end of the 59th minute when Ryan Knight came on to replace Lucas.
The first chance of the second half eventually came Aylesbury's way just before the end of the 62nd minute when, from Tuttle's throw-in from the left, a bit of a scramble ensued before Murray's headed clearance fell to Hayden Beadle. His hooked diagonal ball forward from 20 yards out over Thame left back found Daniel, who sent his first time left foot shot from 12 yards over the bar and although it wasn't the easiest chance, he perhaps could have done better.
Thame went close in the 65th minute when Carbon's right foot shot from 18 yards from a tight angle on the right was saved past his left hand post by Callan for a corner.
Then at the other end just into the 66th minute, Aylesbury went close when Callan's long clearance down the middle found Daniel 35 yards out, who took a touch to control before sending a diagonal forward ball to Pearce, whose first time left foot shot from 20 yards was deflected by Murray for a corner.
Aylesbury made their second change in the 67th minute when Max Cavana came on to replace Bloom.
The hosts made their final change just into the 73rd minute when Kwai Marsh-Brown came on to replace Lynn.
Then in the 78th minute, Thame went 2-1 up when Riddick won a challenge 30 yards out on the left before sending a low through ball down the left flank to Lack. He took a touch to control before cutting the ball back from the byeline for Alexander to fire his first time right foot shot from 10 yards into Callan's left hand corner. 2-1 Thame
Thame made their second change with 22 seconds of normal time left when Louis Fountain came on to replace Carbon.
What proved to be the final chance of the afternoon came the visitors' way just into the 6th minute of added time at the end when a through ball found Knight, who ran on before having his shot saved by Callan.
With the 4th Official having indicated a minimum of 5 minutes added time to be played, the final blast of referee Smith's whistle after an eventual total of 5 minutes and 48 seconds of added time brought the game to a close and confirmed Aylesbury's defeat by their local rivals.
It was a disappointing home defeat at the hands of the Oxfordshire side now managed by former Ducks manager Ben Williams and his assistant Mike Hogg.
This defeat plus results elsewhere sees The Ducks remain in 16th place, 4 points behind 15th placed Barton Rovers albeit with the Bedfordshire side having a game in hand.
Meanwhile, Thame's win sees them move up one place from bottom to 18th, a point clear of Kempston Rovers (with a game in hand over the Bedfordshire side who dropped to bottom place) but a point behind 17th placed Kidlington, albeit with Kidlington having 2 games in hand.
