A trip up the road to former Landlords Thame United was the order of the day, with the Ducks looking to erase the bad memory of the FA Cup exit at the start of August.
The starting lineup today contained only 6 that started that day and two changes from the previous game, Will St Clair Burton and Sonny French dropping to the bench, replaced by Morrison Hashii and Kajetan Halatyn.
The hosts started the game well, playing into the poor weather conditions, with a howling wind and driving rain in their faces. They opened the scoring in the 5th minute, a ball was played forward to ex-Duck Brayden Daniel on the right, who laid it off to Harry Alexander just outside the penalty area. His shot was blocked and half cleared back to Daniel, he was able to pick out Dan West 25 yards out, who hit a powerful shot past Remy Mitchell. 1-0 Thame
Next Greg Hackett made ground down the left and crossed low to Ollie Hogg on the edge of the penalty area, but his shot was deflected wide for a corner. Hackett took the corner, which was headed out of the penalty area, but recycled by Finlay Murray, whose cross was headed out by Liam Batchelor-Morgan, but only as far as Alexander, who hit a first time half-volley across Mitchell from 15 yards into the far corner of the net. 2-0 Thame
Despite playing against the conditions, Thame were holding the upper hand, dominating possession in midfield and creating chances with each attack. The next chance was created after a cross from ex-Ducks favourite Mark Riddick was headed out by Jake Bewley to Alexander, but this time he couldn't keep his shot down enough to trouble Mitchell.
The Ducks came close to pulling one back in the 14th minute; a deep free kick from Bewley was headed goalwards by Jack Wood, but saw his effort rebound off the post, with his follow up attempt scrambled away by the Thame defence.
Another Bewley free kick minutes later was cleared upfield into the path of Tom McElroy, who made ground towards the penalty area, but Haziz Kone did extremely well to track back and put pressure on the shot, which was saved by Mitchell.
On the half hour Hogg won the ball in midfield and passed to Hackett on the right, he cut inside and hit a powerful shot which was beaten away by Mitchell.
McElroy had a great chance to add a 3rd goal shortly after, meeting a Hackett corner, but he could only steer his header from 8 yards wide of the goal.
The Ducks were starting to get more of a foothold by now, with a couple of good chances presenting themselves. First Halatyn picked up the ball in midfield before passing wide to Luqman Kassim, who cut inside and shot from 25 yards, which was saved by Matt Crowther in the home goal. Next Kamil Zielinski did well on the right, beating Oscar Lucey before laying the ball into the path of Ben Stallard, who hit a first time shot which hit the cross bar.
With two minutes left in the first half, Hackett got the better of Batchelor-Morgan and crossed to Alexander at the far post, but his side footed effort was wide of the post.
Half-time: Thame 2-0 Aylesbury
Half time saw the Ducks make their first substitution, with St Clair-Burton replacing Batchelor-Morgan, who was struggling with an injury. The change saw Kone revert to right back, with St Clair-Burton playing alongside Stallard in the centre of the midfield.
St Clair-Burton was soon into the action, playing a through ball to Halatyn, who saw his shot from 15 yards saved by the feet of Crowther. Two minutes later a quick throw from Kassim to Bewley saw him fire a low cross into the 6-yard box, but Zielinski put his effort wide.
On the hour, a free kick was headed down to Wood at the far post, but his effort was saved at the far post. Shortly afterwards, a long goal kick was headed on by Halatyn into the path of Hashii, clear of the defence, but he chose to shoot early from 20 yards, pulling his effort across goal.
Thame increased their lead in the 74th minute, when Alexander played the ball into Jefferson Louis, who exchanged passes with West before firing a fine shot into the top corner from 25 yards, leaving Mitchell helpless. 3-0 Thame
With 6 minutes left on the clock, yet another ex-Duck scored to complete the rout. Hackett did well to get to the bye line on the left and crossed to Hayden Beadle 10 yards out, who placed his header into the net beyond the dive of Mitchell. 4-0 Thame
Despite the scoreline, the Ducks didn't give up; two minutes from time substitute Andrijus Lapacinskas delivered a cross to Zielinski at the far post, but he couldn't get a clean shot away and Crowther scrambled the ball behind for a corner.
With 4 minutes added on time played, French and Lapacinskas combined on the right, before Lapacinskas hit a shot that was deflected to Wood, who laid the ball to St Clair-Burton on the edge of the penalty area, but his effort sailed over the cross bar.
The final whistle went shortly afterwards, to end another disappointing performance against Thame, a side containing a large number of ex-Ducks either on the pitch or on the coaching staff, all of whom were motivated to do well against their former team. Next up is a blank Saturday, courtesy of the League having an odd number of teams again this season, before returning to action on Wed 4th Dec at home to an in-form Barton Rovers
