After a 10 day break due to having no game on the preceding weekend, the Ducks returned to action at play off chasing Flackwell Heath, looking to bounce back from a disappointing defeat at home to Thame last time out. Changes to the starting line up saw Chris Manangu make his first start, in place of the unwell Tom Cove, and Haziz Kone and Ben Peters return in place of Sonny French and Gianni Massi. Flackwell came into the game in good form, having won 5 of their previous 6 games, including impressive wins last time out against play off chasing Hadley; however, they were missing key striker Michael Harding for tonight's game.
The hosts started well, taking the game to the Ducks, pressing fast and dominating possession. They took the lead in the 7th minute, after Jack Hopwood couldn't get a strong hand on the ball from a Harry Mepham corner, the ball going straight into the goal at the far post. 1-0 Flackwell
In the 14th minute it was almost 2-0, when League top scorer Wiktor Makowski picked up the ball on the right and drifted infield, before firing a shot from 25 yards, which just cleared the crossbar.
Another scare from a corner saw Hopwood palm the ball out, which rebounded goalwards off Jake Bewley, before being scrambled clear. The hosts did extend their lead in the 16th minute, in quite bizarre style; a Peters back pass looked innocuous, but took a high bounce as it arrived at Hopwood, who could only head it up in the air, into the path of Eddie Lee, who had the easy task of tapping home into an open goal. 2-0 Flackwell
Just before the half hour, James Ayres picked the ball up in midfield, and shot from 30 yards, but saw his shot climb high over the crossbar. A corner shortly afterwards saw Mark Nisbet head the ball goalwards at the front post, but it was cleared off the line. Makowski had another good chance shortly afterwards, collecting a ball forward before forcing Hopwood into a fine finger tip save with his shot from the edge of the penalty area.
With half time approaching, and the Ducks looking to regroup at the break, a poor refereeing decision saw a corner awarded when everyone in the ground saw a home attacker have the last touch before the ball went out of play. From the corner Bewley could only head the ball up in the air, allowing Lewis Pegg to force the ball over the line. 3-0 Flackwell
Half-time: Flackwell 3-0 Aylesbury
A half time substitution saw the injured Kian Henry replaced by Dan Lodovica, forcing a reshuffle in defence for the Ducks, with Peters taking a more defensive role.
Ten minutes into the second period, a free kick from the right taken by Lewis Patrick presented Lee with a free header, which he comfortably converted into the far corner. 4-0 Flackwell
A second substitution just before the hour mark saw Pow Raposo limp off, to be replaced by Kajetan Halatyn.
On 72 minutes, Luqman Kassim lost the ball in a tackle on the half way line, it was passed forward to Ayres, who saw a sharp shot saved at his near post by Hopwood.
Ayres did get on the score sheet in the next attack, a cross from the left was headed down to him 15 yards from goal, allowing him a free shot which he buried in the far corner. 5-0 Flackwell
That goal saw a raft of changes from both sides, two for the home side and the remaining three from the Ducks, with French, Jarzabek and Rai coming on for Batchelor-Morgan, Manangu and Peters. Three minutes after coming on, Jarzabek picked the ball up 35 yards from goal, advanced and fired in a shot from 25 yards which just cleared the crossbar.
Five minutes from the end, substitute Jethro Odumosu was fouled, but the referee played a good advantage, allowing Patrick to get forward and shoot, but Hopwood saved well.
Another advantage play saw Halatyn collect the ball from Tuttle, before being dragged back; he got away from his marker before reaching the penalty area, but dragged his shot across goal. Halatyn had another chance two minutes from the end, a pass from Jarzabek over the defence was collected by the striker, but his shot was too high to warm the gloves of Carl Dennison in the home goal.
The final chance fell to the home side, three minutes into added on time, when a free kick from Patrick reached Louis Bouwers, but his volley was over the cross bar.
Another sobering defeat on the road for the Ducks, work to do for the management to get a response from the squad before the visit of relegation haunted Kidlington, as we celebrate our Community Day, along with Non-League Day on Saturday.
