On a day when the Ducks celebrated Non-League Day, combined with their annual Community Day fixture, with a bumper crowd in attendance, lowly Kidlington were the visitors. Injuries to Pow Raposo and Kian Henry forced changes to the side, with Sonny French playing in an advanced role and Maks Jarzabek starting midfield, allowing Will St Clair-Burton to replace Henry at the heart of the defence.
The visitors, with new loan signing from Banbury United Joel Odei-Larbi making his debut up front, almost opened the scoring in the 6th minute, when a corner from the right was headed narrowly wide by Otis Castle. Two minutes later, Patrick Osborne forced a save from Jack Hopwood, which he initially spilled, but collected at the second attempt.
The first attack for the Dicks saw Luqman Kassim cut in from the left past Zarius Edwards-Giraud and fired a shot from 20 yards which was narrowly wide of the near post. Kassim had another chance 7 minutes later, but this time, his shot from a similar position went wide of the far post.
Half-time: Aylesbury 0-1 Kidlington
Into the second half, the Ducks made a change, with Henry replacing Liam Batchelor-Morgan, allowing St Clair-Burton to return to his more familiar midfield berth.
It was the visitors who had the first chance of the second period, Osborne again providing the attacking outlet, collecting the ball wide on the right before cutting inside Ben Peters and shooting from 20 yards, forcing Hopwood into a smart save.
In the 50th minute, Osborne crossed from the left to Odei-Larbi, who saw his effort blocked by Hopwood, before the ball rebounded back to him, but the ball fell to John Dennis, who saw his effort blocked and cleared by Henry.
Five minutes later, a throw in from Kassim found Haziz Kone, who passed inside to Jarzabek; his shot lacked power and was comfortably saved by Charlie Barnett.
Just before the hour mark, St Clair-Burton threaded a ball through to Tom Cove, who made ground into the penalty area, before going to ground under the challenge of two Kidlington defenders; referee Neil Morrison played on and the ball fell to Kone, but his shot from just inside the penalty area was just wide of the far post.
Two minutes later the ball was spread wide to Osborne on the left; he played a low ball into the penalty area, which was half cleared, but fell to Charlie Bacon, who saw his shot from 15 yards bravely blocked by Charlie Tuttle.
The visitors took the lead in somewhat untidy circumstances; a long throw from the right bounced high in the penalty area, going through to the far post where Osborne rose above Peters to head past Hopwood. 1-0 Kidlington
Much as the Ducks tried to get back into the game, the visiting defence dealt with the efforts on their goal, and almost scored a second goal themselves, as the referee awarded a penalty for a challenge on Odei-Larbi by Henry and Hopwood. However, the striker took the penalty himself, but skied his effort high and wide of the goal.
So, a sixth defeat on the bounce, all the more disappointing given the lowly opposition compared to the teams that have beaten the Ducks in the previous 5 games. The task for the team and management now is to lift themselves for the visit of former landlords Leighton Town, who sit just outside the play off places, on Wednesday evening
