An injury to George Cleveland, sustained before scoring his wonder goal last week against Stotfold, prevented Paul Batchelor fielding the same XI, but James Bone was able to return in his place. Only 3 subs were named, due to unavailability of a number of members of the squad, but this did include Alfie Anderson, for the first time since returning to the club in February, after overcoming an injury.
The game had a somewhat soporific feel in the opening exchanges, on a warm sunny day in north London. The first goal mouth action didn't arrive until the 27th minute, when the Ducks took the lead. A deep cross from Jake Bewley on the left found skipper Jack Wood at the far post, outjumping the much taller Prince Kandolo to head the ball across the 6-yard box, where Frankie Bircham was well placed to tap in from 2 yards. 1-0 Aylesbury
Two minutes later, Callum Ismail played a long diagonal pass to Levi Young on the right flank; he beat Bewley in the tackle and drove into the penalty area, but his shot from 20 yards lacked composure and was high and wide of the goal.
On 36 minutes, a good run through the middle of the park by Cam Ferguson saw him find Tommy Roberts who saw his shot from 20 yards sail over the bar.
With four minutes remaining of the first period, home captain Luke Alfano put in a dangerous cross from the right which found the head of Jordan Edwards, but like his colleagues previously, he couldn't keep his effort down.
Half-time: Hadley 0-1 Aylesbury
Into the second half, Finaly Reeves combined well with Rocko Tamlin down the left; Tamplin gathered the ball well and got into the penalty area, but his effort was high and wide of the far post, when he would liked to have done better.
On 56 minutes, an interchange between Ferguson and Roberts saw Ferguson burst into the right side of the penalty area, but like so many efforts before, his shot didn't trouble Jack Hopwood and sailed over the crossbar.
In the 77th minute former Duck Tyrone Shiham, on as a substitute, cut in off the left wing and was tackled by Liam Batchelor-Morgan; the ball fell to fellow sub Timothy Okwusogu, but his shot flew across goal and wide of the far post. The final action of the game saw Okwusogu work his way through the middle of the park, to be tackled by Luke Martin. The ball ran to Romey Meoded, but again, his shot was off target.
This was a game that definitely had an 'end of season' feel about it, with neither side troubling either the promotion or relegation places before the game; however, it continued the Ducks good run of form towards the end of the season, a 3rd successive win to take into the final game against Hertford Town, who are chasing a play off place next weekend. It is also the club's annual 'Community Day', when admission is free to all who register on the club website and bring a food donation for the club's charity partner, Youth Concern We look forward to seeing as many of you as possible for a fun-filled afternoon.
