Four days after a valiant defeat at League leaders Real Bedford, the Ducks travelled to Beaconsfield Town, with manager Dave Tuttle choosing to make just one change to the starting line up, Sonny French returning in place of Liam Batchelor-Morgan. Ben Peters moved to right back to facilitate French taking his place in an attacking midfield role.
It was a sluggish start by the Ducks, playing deep and allowing the hosts space to pass the ball around. A poor clearance from Jack Hopwood was collected by Eremide Lawal who played the ball infield to Akiel Raffie; he passed the ball forward to Manuchim Oke-William on the edge of the penalty area, who turned and shot, but his effort was straight at Hopwood.
After French did well to win the ball on halfway, the ball fell to Haziz Kone who made good ground towards the penalty area, but saw his shot from 25 yards screw wide of the target.
On 19 minutes, a headed clearance fell to Joshua Marcon 20 yards from goal in a central position, who hit a powerful shot that Hopwood got down well to save.
Just before the half hour the Rams took the lead; a Jake Bewley headed clearance was collected by Raffie, who passed to Oke-William. The big centre forward played a first time ball to Marcon 25 yards out; initially the ball seemed to stick between his feet, but he recovered to fire a fine shot past Hopwood to open the scoring. 1-0 Beaconsfield
From the restart, Peters played the ball forward to Maks Jarzabek, who played the ball further forward to Tom Cove; he dummied the ball well and turned past Luke Neville, before breaking into the penalty area, but his shot lacked power and direction to bother Tommy Dymott in the home goal.
In the 33rd minute, a long ball forward from Dymott was flicked on by Oke-William to Ibi Sankoh; he passed to Lawal, who shot from the edge of the penalty area, but just wide of the post. Sankoh collected the ball on half way and passed wide to Lawal who made a driving run into the penalty area, where Charley Tuttle dived in to concede a penalty. Lawal stepped up himself and converted the spot kick, despite Hopwood guessing right and getting a hand to the ball. 2-0 Beaconsfield
Shortly afterwards a long ball forward from Jacques Kpohomouh was chested down by Lawal on the edge of the penalty area; he laid the ball off to Marcon, who saw his shot from 25 yards parried up into the air by Hopwood, where Oke-William headed the ball against the post, after which Hopwood claimed the ball gratefully.
Half-time: Beaconsfield 2-0 Aylesbury
Into the second half, patient play on the right side involving Kone, French and Cove saw Peters find Luqman Kassim in space 20 yards out, but his shot was just wide of the keeper's left hand post. In the 50th minute, a quick break out of defence saw Kone feed substitute Kajetan Halatyn. He passed the ball on to Will St Clair-Burton, whose attempted ball wide to Cove was deflected into the path of Halatyn on the edge of the penalty area, but Charlie Smith defended well to allow Dymott to come out and claim the ball ahead of the striker.
Shortly afterwards, a passing move out of defence was intercepted by Ben Tricker, who found Lawal on the left; he made his way into the penalty area, but saw his shot from 15 yards deflected into the side netting for a corner.
On 58 minutes, another good break forward saw Halatyn combine with Cove to set Kassim free just inside the penalty area, but Smith recovered well to block his shot.
In the 65th minute, Neville won the ball just inside his own half and strode forward before passing wide to Lawal. He saw his shot well saved down low by Hopwood, who did extremely well to make a double save as Oke-William headed the rebound goalwards. Just a minute later, Cove did well on the left, shrugging off three challenges before firing in a left foot shot form 20 yards, which Dymott saved down low to his right.
Just as it looked as the Ducks were likely to get back into the game, the killer 3rd goal arrived. A goal kick was headed on by Sankoh to Oke-William, who flicked it into the path of Lawal; 35 yards from goal, he had a lot to do, but he drifted towards the penalty area avoiding the challenges of the defenders and sidefooted past Hopwood to score. 3-0 Beaconsfield
A chastening afternoon for the Ducks after a resolute performance against the league leaders in midweek; perhaps that game took too much out of the team and today was something of a hangover from that defeat. However, the performances and results from the rest of February offer much more hope for the coming games. Two big home fixtures ahead this week as first Stotfold visit on Wednesday before arch-rivals Thame United are the visitors next Saturday.
