After slipping to their 3rd straight league defeat with a 0-3 home loss to 2nd placed Bromsgrove Sporting at The Meadow 48 hours earlier, Aylesbury United's hopes of getting back to winning ways in the final instalment of 'El Quackico' for the foreseeable future were dashed as Aylesbury FC claimed local bragging rights with a 3-1 win over Ben Williams' side in their big Easter Monday local derby in the Evo-Stik Southern League Division 1 Central in front of a 371 crowd at a sunny and warm SRD Stadium, Haywood Way on Monday.
United's defeat by Bromsgrove and results elsewhere had left The Ducks in 14th place in the table, a point ahead of 15th placed Barton Rovers with 16th placed Welwyn Garden City a further 4 points behind.
Meanwhile, FC had gone into the game on the back of a 0-2 away league defeat by play-off hopefuls Sutton Coldfield Town on the Saturday which took their losing run to 5 games to leave them 3 points adrift at the bottom of the table.
FC almost got the game off to a dramatic start when Alfie Touceda's low diagonal through ball on the left found Harry Scott inside the left of the box and he took a touch before firing his right foot shot wide of United keeper Archie Davis' left hand post with just 40 seconds on the watch.
The Ducks' first chance came in the 3rd minute when Max Hercules' free kick from the left of middle was held at height by FC keeper Nick Bennion.
The next chance came United's way in the 8th minute when Jake Bewley's corner from the left to the far post was punched out by Bennion to Sonny French, who fired his right foot shot from 30 yards well over the bar.
The Ducks went close in the 12th minute when Bewley's free kick from the left was headed down at the far post by Aaron Berry with the ball falling to the unmarked Harry Jones, who fired his first time right foot shot from 8 yards straight into Bennion's midriff.
Then at the same end in the 22nd minute, Greg Williams' low diagonal ball forward from the left to the right of middle found Tre Mitford who turned before eventually firing his low left foot shot on the turn from the edge of the box wide of Bennion's left hand post without troubling the keeper.
With the very warm conditions in mind, Northampton referee Rob Evans suspended play for a touch under 90 seconds almost midway through the first half for a drinks break.
The next chance came United's way towards the end of the 34th minute when Bewley's throw in from the left found Jones who made a diagonal run infield before having his right foot shot from 20 yards deflected by FC defender Derek Feyi wide of Bennion's left hand post for a corner.
Just 34 seconds later (now in the 35th minute), United took the lead when from the resulting corner, Bewley's flag kick from the right found Jack Wood who rose above Jordan Gilbert to send his header from 8 yards into Bennion's right hand corner for his 5th goal of the season in all competitions. 1-0 Aylesbury United
The last serious clear-cut chance saw FC equalise 1 minute 15 seconds into added time at the end when Ty Deacon made a diagonal run from left to middle before sending a ball over the top through the middle to Scott, who ran on before sending his left foot lob from the edge of the D over the advancing Davis and into the centre of the net. 1-1
Half-time: Aylesbury FC 1-1 Aylesbury United
The first serious clear-cut chance of the second half came United's way in the 53rd minute when Bewley's corner from the right to the far post found Wood, who sent his header from 12 yards well wide of Bennion's right hand post.
Then at the other end just into the 59th minute, Scott's free kick from the right about 6 yards inside United's half found Deacon who rose above Callum Mapley but saw his header 10 yards held by Davis.
The hosts went close again in the 61st minute when Ryan Young's low through ball on the right found Scott who ran on and into the box before having his low right foot angled drive from 10 yards parried to his right by Davis.
Just under 2 and a half minutes later, there was another drinks break lasting just over a minute, during which time FC made their first change when Ken Feyi came on to replace Bruno Brito in the 64th minute.
The hosts went close in the 66th minute when Scott's cross from the left found Deacon who took a touch to control before having his left foot shot from 18 yards held by Davis.
Then at the other end in the 68th minute, The Ducks went close when Hercules sent his right foot free kick from a fraction outside the right front of the box to the right of middle curling into the side netting at Bennion's left hand post.
A great chance came United's way in the 77th minute when Mapley's great low through ball found Mitford who ran through but Sam Odusoga was able to put the ball past Bennion's left hand post for a corner.
Then in the 80th minute, FC went 2-1 up when Scott's low free kick from 25 yards on the left was saved to his right by Davis for a corner. From the resulting corner from the left to the far post, Ken Feyi rose highest to send his header from 4 yards into Davis' left hand corner. 2-1 Aylesbury FC
The Ducks made their first change in the 83rd minute when Maciej Tais came on to replace Jones.
Then in the 86th minute, disaster struck for United. The lively Scott broke away on the hosts' left and Ducks defender Chris Crook slid in to try and in the ball but was late and took the FC man out. A scuffle involving players of both sides ensued before referee Evans surprised many inside the ground by showing Crook a straight red card to leave United to battle on with just 10 men for the final 3 minutes plus added time.
Then in the 89th minute, FC went close when Young's low ball in from the right found Ken Feyi who took a touch to control with Wood at his back before spinning and having his right foot shot from 4 yards saved at his right hand post by Davis for a corner.
The resulting corner by Scott from the left to the far post found Ken Feyi who took a touch to control with his right foot before firing his right foot shot from 6 yards into Davis' top left hand corner to make it 3-1. 3-1 Aylesbury FC
FC made a double change 12 seconds into added time at the end when Lewis Merridan came on to replace Deacon and Brian Haule came on to replace Scott.
Then not long after came a moment of controversy when a Ducks long ball over the top down the middle saw FC's Ben Stevens head the ball towards Bennion but collide with United's Aaron Berry while leading with his elbow. However, referee Evans failed to punish Stevens.
The last chance came FC's way 3 minutes and 21 seconds into added time at the end when Touceda's chip over Mapley found Gilbert who fired his first time left foot shot from 10 yards over the bar.
The final blast of referee Evans' whistle just 29 seconds later brought the game to a close and confirmed that local bragging rights were back with FC as United crashed to their 4th straight defeat.
The Ducks will be hoping to get back to winning ways for their final game of the season at home to Barton Rovers at The Meadow on Saturday (3.00pm).
